Apple iPad 2 is in Production

Apple iPad
Apple has started manufacturing iPad 2, featuring, as previously rumored, a built-in camera and faster processor. It will be thinner and lighter than the first model. WSJ says iPad 2 won’t improve resolution over the first iPad. People familiar with the situation said Apple has had trouble improving the display technology, in part because of the iPad screen's larger size compared with the iPhone.

Other rumored specifications are:
    * One USB port and SD card slot
    * Uses both GSM and CDMA networks
    * The iPad 2is essentially made from one piece of metal with no pins needed
    * The iPad 2 will have a boosted dual core GPU

Apple is reportedly is sticking with its device duopoly, making the iPad available through AT&T, which was the first to carry iPhone and iPad, and also Verizon Wireless. Rumours suggested that the iPad 2 release date is probably in the Spring.

Apple Patents Show ConvertibleTablet

Apple may make a new product in the near future, a combo laptop-tablet computer, a laptop that can transform into tablet. In a Nov. 30 patent entitled "Application Programming Interfaces for Scrolling Operations," Apple depicts a laptop that slides into tablet form as an example of a device that would take advantage of the patent's scrolling operations.

The drawings first show a laptop with a traditional keyboard, body, display frame and display. Then, according to the patent, "the laptop device can be converted into a tablet device" by sliding the display across the keyboard.

Since the patent relates to scrolling operations, it would presumably not cover the convertible laptop to tablet form factor. Apple does, however, disclaim in the application that the patent contains "specific exemplary embodiments."

    HP Slate 500 Officially Launched

Hewlett-Packard officially launched its Windows 7-based tablet PC, HP Slate 500. This tablet comes with a 8.9-inch, 1024×600 resolution screen, a 1.86GHz Intel Atom Z540 processor, a Crystal HD accelerator that should ensure smooth playback for HD (1080p) videos, two gigabytes of RAM (recent rumors predicted 1 GB), and a 64GB SSD.

It has a USB port and two cameras: a 3-megapixel one on the back, and a VGA camera on the front for making video calls. It also has Wi-Fi but, quite disappointingly, no 3G connectivity.

These specifications make the Slate one of the most powerful tablets on the market, but its $799 price tag also makes it more expensive than its chief rival, the iPad. However, HP has envisioned the Slate as a device aimed at business customers.

There Won't Be Any 7-inch iPad from Apple

After some rumors about the next iPad, finally Steve Jobs said that there won't be any 7-inch iPad.

    Quoting Jobs:
This size isn't sufficient to create great tablet apps, in our opinion. While one could increase the resolution of the display to make up for some of the difference, it is meaningless unless your tablet also includes sandpaper, so that the user can sand down their fingers to around one quarter of their present size."

He said that Apple thinks that the 10-inch screen of the current iPad model is the minimum. That you cannot make a great tablet with a seven-inch screen because it cannot express the software.
